Hello ModSquad!
Welcome to the tenth edition of MODULR Minute! You may have noticed we were absent last week.
Turns out, running a weekly newsletter takes some coordination. We thought we had the right systems in place, but found out the hard way we were falling short in our processes. Sound familiar? It happens to the best of us!
Now, we’re back and ready to share bite-sized insights with you every week.
This week’s newsletter is turning up the heat with:
- Crumbl’s Crumbling Lawsuit
- Winbase—Easily Track Your Real Wins
- Digital Video on the Rise
- A New Tool Hueristic
Let’s dive in!
Crumbl Faces $24 Million Lawsuit Over Copyright Infringement
Crumbl, the popular Utah-based cookie shop, is making headlines once again over another lawsuit—except this time, they’re the defendant. The giant cookie corp faces a $24 million copyright lawsuit over alleged music violations in their viral marketing campaigns on social media. Crumbl has a litigious past, formerly suing rival cookie companies Dirty Dough and Crave for trademark infringement. Crumbl dismissed its suit against Crave and agreed to a settlement with Dirty Dough.
Now, as Crumbl gears up to defend itself over the music copyright violation, it’s important to remember: violating copyright laws for a TikTok video is a recipe for disaster.
💡Takeaway: Make sure you do your due diligence before posting that viral trending video. Don’t illegally use any copyrighted audio; otherwise, you might end up paying for it later.
Want to Make More Money This Year?
We’ve all been part of “performance reviews” that seem more stick than carrot. No one enjoys it. Performance reviews have become a tradition that needs to change (Like April Fools). And yet, most companies will continue to use these outdated frameworks that don’t actually track real performance.
What if you could wow your boss into a “We’d be stupid to lose our star player” mentality? We felt the same way, so we built the tool to do it.
It’s called Winbase. Track your work wins daily or weekly. Generate a shareable report for 1-on-1s, performance reviews, or promotion conversations. And earn more money just from tracking what you’re already doing.
It’s almost ready to launch. Want to be an early user? Reply to this email and we’ll get you access as soon as it goes live.
What We’re Reading: Digital Video on the Rise
The latest Interact Advertising Bureau (IAB) report says digital video is on track to capture nearly 60% of all TV and video ad spend in 2025—a huge shift that confirms what many marketers already feel: digital is where the action is. Whether it’s short-form content, streaming platforms, or social video, brands are putting their money where the most eyeballs are.

Should you try that new tool?
We have two pillars when evaluating new software:
- The tool should replace a manual task you’re already doing.
- The tool should make that task easier to do.
We’ve seen far too many tools purchased because the team conflates the tool with the motion. When that happens, the tool becomes shelfware—bought with the best intentions, then quietly abandoned.
So here’s the test: If your team didn’t do the task manually before, a new tool won’t magically make it a habit. And if the tool doesn’t make the task faster, simpler, or more accurate, you’re just adding friction (and another line item to your budget).
Tools should reduce drag—not add it.
Before you add something new to your stack, ask:
- What are we doing today that this tool replaces?
- Will this make it easier, or just different?
If it doesn’t pass both tests, it’s a distraction.
What tools have you looked at recently that did or didn’t pass these tests? Let us know with a reply. We read every single one!
